The British Virgin Islands are all of what I hope
them to be – white sand and sunshine beaches, wonderful diving and snorkeling, clear
water, scenic walking, lots of boating chances, and heavy rum drinks. I spent 2
months going around the islands by boat. There are many wonderful things to do
on the islands – life here is not all piña coladas and hammocks. Festivals and
diving, from strenuous walking trails to tide pools, each of the islands in
this area has many to make you busy if a full day at the beach isn’t your problem.
Typical Prices
Accommodation prices – Hostel are going to be your
biggest payment while traveling here. You must pay around $150 USD for a cheap
hotel room in a night. If you are planning on camping, minimal places cost
about $22 USD for a night, while equipped campsites generally cost around $45
USD for a night (including electricity, water, etc).
Average cost of food – You may be pay about $8-12
USD for pizza, and other grab or meals. For main dishes like steak, fish, or
seafood, you’re looking at $20 USD or more. Groceries are fairly expensive because
they have to be imported. However there are some cheap options. Food for 5 days
cost me $56 USD, it have pasta, chicken, fruits and veggies, eggs, and bread.
Transportation costs – Taxi prices, released by the
government, are too expensive ($10-30 USD per ride). If you are careless, you
can easily lost over $30 USD a day going around the islands. Shared taxis can take
about $1-2 USD per person. If you want to go at a minimum price, you can
hitchhike while going on the islands (even on boats)! If you are going with friends,
renting a car is cheaper, about $60-80 USD for a day.
Activities – Snorkeling at this beach is free but you
should bring your own equipment to the islands because equipment is expensive
if bought here. If you are excited about boating excursions and guided tours,
you may pay around $20-$40 USD for a day on getting to, and entrance fees for
some of the parks. A day sail trips has price about $150 dollars per boat.
